Joe Echo-Hawk CFI, CFII, MEI, AGI, IGI
and licensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic
I have been enjoying flying airplanes since 2001. Instructing others how to fly airplanes is my main occupation and something I enjoy doing for a living. In addition to flight instruction, I work on a part-time basis with SeaPort Airlines as a commercial pilot. I have also obtained my Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic certifications and can work as an airplane mechanic when the weather slows down my flying time. I have found that having knowledge of aircraft systems to be a tremendous boost to my flying and instructing. The world of aviation offers endless possibilities for the types of jobs, aircraft, and locations associated with working as a pilot. I have enjoyed the variety and have no plans of pursuing another career anytime soon!
When I'm not at the airport, I take advantage of living in the beautiful Pacific-Northwest. I spend my time in the summer months riding motorcycles, camping, and hiking. I've worked as a commercial salmon fisherman up on Bristol Bay, Alaska since 2004 during June & July and there is nothing like it! During the winter months, I spend my time hiding out from the rain by drinking coffee and reading, learning how to build websites, and playing guitar, and getting my outdoor time on Mt. Hood snowboarding.
I recently had the opportunity to spend 5 weeks in Papua New Guinea with Samaritan Aviation re-assembling their Cessna 206 amphibious floatplane that is currently being used for humanitarian and medical evacuation flights in remote villages. If you would like to see a video of the first flight into a village after the airplane was re-assembled, click here.
I instruct primarily out of Twin Oaks Airpark in Hillsboro, but schedule permitting, I will meet at the Hillsboro Airport, Portland International Airport, Troutdale Airport, and Pearson Airport in Vancouver, Washington.
