*10 hours is required, but 12 hours may be a more accurate approximation for what many people need in order to be ready for a checkride.

** 55 hours is an approximate average time required for ground instruction, flight instruction, cross-country instruction, high-performance & complex endorsement, and checkride prep.

*** 25 hours of airplane rental time is an approximate average necessary for learning the maneuvers with an instructor that are associated with a commercial license. This 25 hours also includes the cross-country time that must be met with an instructor. Most people spend additional time practicing maneuvers on their own without an instructor. This figure also does not include the time required to meet your 250 hours of total time, and the 50 hours of cross country PIC that are associated with a commercial pilot license.

• The cost summary is based on an approximation. Actual cost will vary slightly with each individual. The quoted price is for more hours then are set forth as the training minimums in the Federal Aviation Regulations, but are more accurate in terms of what it commonly takes to finish a commercial pilot license.

Airplane rental pricing is based on a Cessna 150 that rents for $90 per hour, and a Piper PA-24-250 Comanche that rents for $185 per hour.

• Instruction rates are $50 per hour.

• One of the major determining factors in the cost of your commercial pilot license is how you go about obtaining the 50 hours of required PIC cross-country time. For more information, refer to how to plan for your 50 hours of cross-country time.
